This is the Swasey River at San Pablo, a small Kekchi Indian village in the jungles of Belize. It took Randy, our point man in Belize, and I about two hours to get to the village from the cabin I used as a home baseĀ in Banana Bank. San Pablo is located at the end of a very narrow dirt road cut through banana plantations and then jungle. The people of San Pablo live in small very humble dwellings with dirt floors and roofs of palm leaves.Though lien in material things, there was an abundance of smiles on the faces of the children.
I felt very honored as the village leaders led us down a long path not far from their huts to this beautiful place at the river. This is their location to gather water for cooking and drinking, washing clothes, bathing, swimming, and fishing. It is their primary life source in many ways.
Almost every time I came to spot on this and other rivers like this, I would think of Psalm 23:2, “…He leads me beside quiet waters.” There is a certain peace in places like this that seem to draw your mind immediately to the Lord.
More Tomorrow,
Craig
